4 of the top mood boosting plants to style your home

Are you fed up of your lifeless interior? If you need to perk up your blank canvas, then house plants are a superb way to add colour to your interior. Personally, whenever I add a dose of nature to my space with house plants I see a complete transformation. They’re not only stunning visually, but they also provide a variety of psychological benefits such as improved mood and reduced stressed levels. The more plants, the better air quality and overall wellbeing. I have compiled a list of 5 of the best indoor plants that will increase your mood and space.

Monstera

One of the most recognisable houseplants is the Monstera Deliciosa. This unique plant is known as the Swiss Cheese plant, native to the tropical forests of southern Mexico. Monstera are most definitely the house plant of the moment – their striking leaves are adorned with dramatic natural hole like formations. These popular plants are climbers, therefore they require a lot of space. Aim to put your Monstera in a statement making spot, because it will want to sit loud and proud. Monstera will tolerate low light but it grows faster and becomes more dramatic in a bright spot.

The Jade plant

The Jade has got real succulent appeal! The jade plant, also known as the money plant and stone lotus, is a succulent native to Africa. This beautiful plant has glossy fleshy oval-shaped leaves that are symbolic of growth and renewal. It’s not just great to look at either, this plant will also purify your home significantly. To make things even better, the Jade plant is very low maintenance, so it’s understandably a very popular house plant to buy. It grows like a miniature tree, with a trunk and branches. You’ll really be letting nature in with this lucky charm. Please note, this plant is toxic to pets.

The Spider plant

The Spider plant is considered among the easiest air purifying plants to grow. Having a spider plant in your home will naturally increase the indoor oxygen levels. If you’re new to house plants, then this plant is an excellent choice. They’re adaptable, one of the easiest plants to keep alive, plus they are very easy on the eye. I have scattered quite a few spider plants around my home, just because I adore the contemporary vibe they give off. Oh, and don’t worry if you have pets – they are considered a safe house plant if you have pets.

Aloe plant

You’re probably wondering, is the Aloe vera plant a good house plant. The wonderful news is that Aloe plant is very easy to grow as a house plant, plus they can grow in pots. The aloe is certainly beautiful to look at, it has strong sturdy leaves that are vibrant greyish green with serrated edges. The aloe plant requires bright light, otherwise it will stop growing. The plant will do best in south or west facing windows or in very light, bright spaces. These plants don’t require much watering either, ideally wait until the soil dries out and heavily water every two weeks.
